Overall, every aspect of this beautiful festival not only in its scenery but also its essence of purity and happiness, and with everyone’s own unique and cherish Christmas tradition, makes it one of the most favorite and special holiday. However, considering there are 7 continents, 195 countries and about zillion cities and tribes it sure makes for many weird and unique traditions, few of which I found quite hilarious and weird, and the top 5 will be shared with you today, so get on this Sleigh ride to Weird Christmas Traditions

  1. Wearing Red Knickers-Spain:

Now this one absolutely takes the cake, I mean it just took the red of Christmas to an extreme. It is actually a New Year tradition but still covers in the 12 days of Christmas so we will consider it a Christmas tradition as well.

It is a Spanish ritual to wear red undies on the last night of the year in order to bring you good luck. However, in one little Valencian village-La Font de Figuera- They take it a step further. In addition, here it is a tradition to run through the village wearing nothing but only your scarlet lingerie. They really took to heart the saying-“Freezing your ass off, to get the work done”

  1. Shoe Tossing-Czech Republic:

So all the single Cinderella’s out there waiting for your Prince Charming, I think this one must excite you most. There is a tradition in the Czech Republic for unmarried women to stand with their backs to the front doors and toss their shoe over their shoulders.

If one lands with its toe pointing towards the door, the woman will supposedly get married within the next 12 months. Now that’s interesting. So how many of you are going to get married this year.

  1. Roller Skating to Church-Venezuela

Now, this is fun, imagine going to church on roller skates instead of cars or any other means. Everyone around you elder, younger, fat, thin all in roller-skates gliding towards the church. In addition, the roads closed for traffic on this day to allow this special way of a commute.

This ‘wheely’ tradition happens in Caracas, Venezuela. So if you happen to be roller-skates fan, and a Go Green follower, make sure to visit this place. I wonder how much carbon expulsion and pollution control can be done if the tradition is followed during every festival, it would sure be an environmentalist’s dream come true. Maybe we can start a campaign for it.

  1. Hide yo brooms, Hide yo wife –Norway

Now that is a perfect mix of reality and fantasy, or maybe Harry Potter movie effect. Nevertheless, it is a centuries-old tradition. And boy do the Norwegians have a great knowledge of witches and evil spirits.

TwoLittleWitches

So according to this tradition, the people in Norway hide their brooms on Christmas Eve so that no witches could get their evil hands on them, to go for a spin. Moreover, the male member of the house even pokes his head out of the house and fires off a few blasts from his shotgun to show who the boss is. I wonder if the witches actually understand it, but this tradition sure makes brooms feel special and valuable.

  1. The ‘Pooing’ man- Catalonia

Seriously, after listing all these traditions I am starting to wonder about the relevance and the limits of our imagination, shortsightedness, and superstitions. I mean undergarments, broom, skates, shoe tossing I understand but poop, and not just poop, but POOPING LOGS.

In Catalonia, Spain people are obsessed by defecation. The parents gift their children a friendly looking log painted all with a happy face and legs, and the children take care of him, feeding him every night and covering him with a blanket. And finally, on the day of Christmas, they sing log song, and beat the log asking him to ‘poop’ up (pun intended) the goodies, and ‘pooping’ it does- nuts, dates, candies-literally whatever it has ‘consumed ‘ over the few days.

Now I am struck with a very strange thought, which I will refrain from sharing with you guys, but I am confused between, finding this hilarious and laughing about it or getting weirded out. But at the end I think it is pretty hilarious, so I leave you all with this POOPING LOG, and let you guys decide about your thoughts on it.

So that’s five most hilarious and strange traditions I found about Christmas. I am pretty sure there are much more like these, but these took the cake for me, and if you know any such weird and hilarious traditions or have one of your own, don’t forget to tell me in the comments below. Till then a pooping, brooming, skating, running, tossing MERRY CHRISTMAS. Have lots of fun, and if you do not have any weird tradition, go make one, it will sure make the festival interesting.
